PlantCare Mobile Application

An AI-assisted plant care experience designed to make plant ownership simpler, more intuitive, and more rewarding.

Overview

PlantCare is a mobile product concept designed to help plant owners better understand, care for, and maintain their plants.

The idea was to bring everyday plant care into one simple experience — from identifying what a plant needs, to keeping track of watering and care tasks, diagnosing potential problems, and finding plants that are better suited to a user’s environment.

I designed the experience from the ground up, focusing on creating an interface that feels approachable and easy to use while still providing useful, actionable information.

The Challenge

Plant care information can often feel overwhelming, fragmented, or difficult to apply to a specific plant and environment.

The goal was to explore how a digital product could simplify this experience by turning plant care into a series of clear, manageable actions rather than presenting users with large amounts of information at once.

The product needed to make it easy for users to:

  • Understand what their plants need
  • Keep track of recurring care tasks
  • Identify potential plant health issues
  • Understand whether a plant is receiving suitable light
  • Discover plants that are compatible with their environment
  • View their plant history and progress over time

The Experience

The product is structured around a personalised plant dashboard, giving users an overview of their plants and the actions that require attention.

From there, users can explore individual plants, log care activities, view care history, and access tools designed to help them understand their plants’ needs.

The prototype also explores more advanced product interactions, including:

Plant diagnosis
A guided experience that presents a potential plant health issue alongside treatment steps and preventative care.

Light scanning
An interactive scanning experience that evaluates a lighting environment and presents suitable plant recommendations based on the result.

Care tracking
Users can record activities such as watering and rotating plants, creating an ongoing care history.

Personalised plant recommendations
The experience connects environmental conditions with plant recommendations, helping users discover plants that are more likely to thrive in their space.

Interactive states and feedback
The prototype includes selectable states, expandable information, progress indicators, animated transitions, task completion, navigation and feedback interactions to make the experience feel closer to a real product rather than a collection of static screens.

Design Approach

I focused on creating a visual language that feels natural, calm and approachable while keeping the interface structured and highly usable.

The design uses a restrained colour palette, clear hierarchy, rounded components and consistent interaction patterns to create a cohesive experience across the product.

Rather than treating each screen independently, I designed the experience as a connected system — considering how users move between tasks, information, actions and outcomes.

AI-Assisted Design & Development

One of the key objectives of this project was to explore how AI can become part of a modern product designer’s workflow.

I used Claude alongside Figma to move from designed screens into an interactive working prototype, using AI-assisted development to translate the product experience into functional interactions.

This allowed me to explore the relationship between design and implementation more directly, experiment with interactions quickly, and understand how AI can help bridge the gap between a high-fidelity design and a working product experience.

The final prototype includes live navigation, interactive controls, animations, expandable content, selectable states and functional product flows rather than simply presenting static mockups.

What This Project Demonstrates

This project allowed me to demonstrate my approach across the full product design process — from defining the experience and information architecture through to UI design, interaction design and functional prototyping.

More importantly, it reflects how I am evolving as a designer: combining traditional UX/UI principles with AI-assisted workflows to prototype, problem-solve and explore product ideas faster.

The result is a product concept that sits at the intersection of thoughtful UX, visual design, interaction and emerging AI-assisted development.
